Here Comes the Sun ~ Rejoice

Easter weekend was lovely. We had a great dinner with our son, daughter in law and of course the grandchildren who live close. Papa and Stella played with the bubble wand for hours. (better than chocolate). I loved reading my daughter’s blog post about Easter at their house.  Easter People and  Metamorphosis

I remember when my children were young; Easter was as important as Christmas. We started with Shrove Tuesday…Ash Wednesday…..Lent….Good Friday to the celebration of He Has Risen. While I no longer practice Catholicism the joy of the son/sun rising is something I practice and rejoice in every day. It was shocking when I listened to a  TV commercial that caught my ear least night. It was for Walmart and the words that stunned me were: “REJOICE, it’s spring.” An invitation to shop in celebration. Buy more, buy more. I know from 30+ years of marketing products that people don’t need what they were doing. It made me mad, judgemental, and maybe a little smug.

My spirituality today comes from a combination of age and experience. I am a little bit Buddhist, Christian, Native and a large amount nature.  I know the  son/sun shines on each of us equally every day, even when it’s behind a cloud.

Not to forget a poem,  I have been singing this one a lot lately, written in 1969 by George Harrison after visiting Eric Clapton’s garden. Carl Sagan wanted to add it to the Voyager program record as a representation of our human society. It had been a tough year for George Harrison but still he knew what to rejoice in:

Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It’s all right
Little darling
It’s been a long, cold lonely winter
Little darling
It feels like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It’s all right
Little darling
The smiles returning to the faces
Little darling
It seems like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It’s all right
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Little darling
I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darling
It seems like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It’s all right
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun
It’s all right
It’s all right
